Orlando Legname - Composer

History

My training as a composer was done primarily with my great master Hans-Joachim Koellreutter whom I thank and praise for his tremendous achievement in a lifetime of intellectual work and teaching. He was one of the greatest minds of the 20th century and I consider a privilege to have been his student, disciple, assistant and friend for XXX years. There are too many composers who inspire me that would be impossible to cite them all, but here are a few of the most important ones in chronological order: Guillaume de Machaut, Palestrina, Orlando di Lasso, Ludwig van Beethoven (the greatest achievement of human existence), Claude Debussy, Igor Stravinsky, Luciano Berio, Gyorgy Ligeti, and Pierre Boulez. Listen to my music by clicking on the "Music" tab.

Style

I have written solo and chamber music pieces in a variety of styles. Many of my recent chamber and orchestral pieces have been performed all over the world, particularly in Europe. My music was performed in two International Festival of Composers as part of the Musica Nueva Malaga Internacional in Spain. My compositions were also performed by renowned European groups such as the Nabla Ensemble at the Universita Degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata, the the InterEnsemble (Padova) Bernardino Beggio, Director, and the Namste Quintet in Italy. During several years in my training with Koellreutter, I worked on many pieces using graphical scores. Here is one example called Quark written for string orchestra and 4 solo violins.

The combination of rock and contemporary music always intrigued me because I always did both and the distinction in my mind was not very clear - they were both my music. I wrote several pieces using rock and classical instruments. Amber is for Violin, Piano, Electric Guitar, Electric Bass, Drums.

I have been working with electronic music since 1985 when I started additive synthesis and manipulation of sounds with tapes. Later I became interested in computer generated sounds and started working with CSound and MAX_MSP. With those programs I wrote a series of pieces called Event Horizon for one instrument and computer generated tape.
